TIP N° 7 ¿Usar guantes mejora tu rendimiento?

My name is Dan Turcotte and I have been playing with the 175 g disc for over 15 years now and Zone 175 approached me to give you my views on the use of gloves in Ultimate.

First I need to say that I have been using gloves regularly since 2009. Before that, the gloves obviously existed but it’s really in 08-09 that it really took off in the market of Ultimate gear. In my early years playing Ulti there were some guys who used the gloves, they were marginal but most of the times the players were pretty solid and generally were the main handlers for their team. At the time it intrigued me and was wondering if that really made a difference, surely in wet conditions I thought but I was not convinced it was great to have them.

So, I tried them (the version then was not good) and I let that go a couple seasons until one season where it was super hot and I had trouble because of too much sweat on my hands, so a friend of mine passed me is gloves and I started loving it especially for catching so I was only using one in my left hand. I did not feel good throwing they were football wide receivers... and with a wet plastic disc it was worse... so I played for a 1/2 season with only one glove in the left hand.... then came Friction gloves and I stared using them as soon as they got to my doorstep. Since then I ve used the gloves to compete and at training. They were not perfect but made me more consistent with my throws and catches. Over the years new companies appeared on the market and gloves improved even more.

Now here is the why you should or shouldn’t use gloves.

Should:

1- if you have a hard time being consistent throwing in the rain

2- if you have sweaty type of hands like me

3-Keeps the hands a bit warmer in cold Canada days

Why you should not:

1- one more piece of equipment to buy

2- if you forget them.... what’s going to happen? Are you going to feel handicapped or not?

3- you just don’t like the feeling

Gloves or not one thing remains at the end of the day the best players always go out and throw on a daily basis!

So I encourage you to give it a try might be a game changer for you!
